Pleasance Courtyard
Our first stop at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe was Hold Onto Your Butts at the Pleasance Courtyard, and it turned out to be a brilliant opener. Three performers — two actors and one sound artist — retell the entire Jurassic Park story with a box of props, sharp comic timing, and plenty of imagination.
The sound work was a standout, from rumbling effects to a pitch-perfect dinosaur squeal that had the audience in stitches. The props were just as inventive, with the T-Rex brought to life using nothing more than a cycle helmet and a traffic cone.
There was a touch of audience participation, never overdone, and always played for laughs. The show moved at a cracking pace, keeping everyone engaged from start to finish.
As a first show of the Fringe for us, it set the bar sky high. An easy five stars out of five.
